Will Levis Faces Competition for the Quarterback Position in the Titans
At this time last year, Will Levis was preparing to be the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. However, the situation has changed drastically. Now, Levis faces tough competition with the first draft pick, Cameron Ward.
“I think anyone who has been in my situation can agree that it’s tough,” Levis said on Wednesday. “I’m just trying to do everything I can to not let it affect me. I’m just the same guy every day in the building and I’m here for the guys.”

Levis anticipated that the Titans would select a quarterback in the draft and began to deal with the emotional aspect during the period leading up to it. This helped him focus on the positive aspects, such as being in the same offense for consecutive seasons for the first time in five years, since his college days at Kentucky and Penn State.
The quarterback room, which includes veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle, has been instrumental in maintaining a positive environment. Levis’s interaction with Ward has also been positive. Levis, having been in a similar situation in the past, is willing to support Ward in his adaptation to the NFL.“He’s a very intelligent kid,” Levis said. “We’ve been able to talk a lot about the different plays we’ve reviewed and hear his perspective, how he sees things. He’s a great athlete, also a great quarterback.”

Ward and Levis shared reps with Allen and Boyle during the team period and 7-on-7 work on Wednesday. Titans coach Brian Callahan cautioned against reading too much into the current order or distribution of reps, as it’s more of an instructional period.“It’s been good,” Ward said. “He was one of the first to come up to me in the locker room. It’s exciting to work with someone who has played a real NFL football game. So I’m glad to get some tips from him.”

During the offseason, Levis traveled to California to work with quarterback personal trainer Jordan Palmer. Levis sought to rebuild from scratch and focus on the fundamentals with Palmer. He claims to feel good after “relearning his throwing motion” and working on footwork improvements.
“I am very pleased with the work he has done,” Callahan said. “I see a real improvement in his footwork and his base. His ability to control the ball has improved.”

Levis was last in the order during the Titans’ first 7-on-7 period. He completed a short pass to Jha’Quan Jackson and connected with James Proche II after his first two reads were blocked.
The practice ended with Mark Perry intercepting a pass from Levis and returning it, which would have been a pick-six. Therefore, Levis still has work to do as he tries to regain his position as the starting quarterback in the league.
Levis intends to be ready to seize any opportunity that comes his way if he doesn’t win the starting job in Tennessee.“I don’t plan on changing my mindset at all, regardless of what the situation is,” Levis said. “I’m going to be ready to play quarterback when I’m called upon.”
