Joe Mixon Out for the Season Due to Injury

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon will not return to action this season due to a foot injury, according to sources close to the team. Mixon missed all of the Texans’ offseason practices and training camp due to the foot injury. This led to Houston placing him on the season-ending injured reserve list. He also did not participate in voluntary workouts and the minicamp with the team. The last time he participated without restrictions in something related to a game or practice with the Texans, with media presence, was in the Houston 2024 divisional round playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs in January. After Houston acquired him from the Cincinnati Bengals in March 2024, he ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, earning Pro Bowl honors. The Texans took measures to compensate for Mixon’s possible absence this offseason by signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb after his seven years with the Cleveland Browns, and selecting Woody Marks from USC in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft. Both have shown effectiveness at times, as Chubb leads the Texans in rushing (419) and has started in eight games. But recently, Marks has outperformed Chubb and has started the last two weeks. Marks is second on the Texans in yards from scrimmage (538). The news that Mixon would not play this season was initially reported.
