Tyrod Taylor Misses Rest of Preseason with Jets
New York Jets backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor will not play the rest of the preseason due to arthroscopic knee surgery. Coach Aaron Glenn described the surgery as a “minor procedure,” but did not confirm whether Taylor will be ready for the regular season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 7.Taylor, 36, who was shaping up to be the second quarterback behind Justin Fields, has dealt with injuries throughout his career, including rib, wrist, hamstring, and head (concussion) issues, as well as a punctured lung in 2020. The Jets’ other quarterbacks are Adrian Martinez and undrafted rookie Brady Cook, who limped off the field Tuesday with an ankle injury, though Glenn believes it’s not serious. If Taylor can’t play in the first game, the Jets would face the game without an experienced backup. Martinez, who was on the practice squad last season, has no regular season experience.I don’t think he’ll play in the preseason. But hopefully, he’ll be ready for Week 1.

Another significant loss is wide receiver Allen Lazard, who will be out for two weeks due to a right shoulder injury sustained in the first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. In positive injury news, rookie tight end Mason Taylor (high ankle sprain) and left guard John Simpson (back) returned to practice. Defensive linemen Quinnen Williams (calf) and Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) also returned, but in a limited capacity. This is his 15th year and, of course, he has seen many things and has played in many games. It’s great to have him on the team, for sure.
