FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – New York Jets defensive end Jermaine Johnson is set to return to the field, eleven months after suffering a rupture of his right Achilles tendon. The Jets activated Johnson from the physically unable to perform list on Sunday. This means he passed his physical and is cleared to practice.

He is following the protocol to prepare himself.

Aaron Glenn, Coach
Coach Aaron Glenn made it clear from the start of training camp that Johnson would be ready for the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that hasn’t changed. Johnson, one of the three first-round picks in 2022, suffered the injury on September 15th in the Week 2 victory against the Tennessee Titans. He returns after a standout season in 2023, which included 7.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl invitation as an injury replacement. His return will be a boost for the defensive line, which has been without defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (calf strain) since July 31. Williams, who will miss between one and two weeks, is close to returning to practice. The Jets have two joint practices with the New York Giants this week, and their annual preseason game is scheduled for Saturday night.
