Jaylen Warren secures his future with the Steelers with a contract extension

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has solidified his position in Pittsburgh by signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him on the team through the 2027 season. The news was announced by his agency, Aura Sports Group, via social media on Monday morning. The agreement includes a guarantee of $12 million. The new contract also includes a signing bonus of $5.95 million, which will raise Warren’s salary to more than $7 million in 2025. He will receive $5.05 million in 2026 and $5.15 million in 2027, totaling $17.25 million in three years.

It’s a great feeling to know they have my back. I will do everything I can to support them too.

Warren, who joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2022, is poised to be the starting running back for the 2025 season, after three seasons as a complement to Najee Harris. The Steelers decided not to exercise Harris’ fifth-year option, which opened the way for Warren to lead the running back group, which also includes rookie Kaleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell. During his college career, Warren played at Snow College, Utah State, and Oklahoma State. He has stood out in the last three seasons for his versatility, valued for his pass protection, speed, and receiving skills.

This is what everyone dreams of, being in a situation like mine. I hope to be the one they look at when they are in those difficult situations in JuCo… because that life is not easy.

Warren averages 4.8 yards per carry and 7 yards per reception in his career. Despite the injuries suffered last season, he accumulated 511 rushing yards on 120 attempts and a touchdown, as well as 310 receiving yards on 38 receptions, in 15 regular season games. As a rookie, he participated in 31% of offensive plays, but in the following two seasons, he shared more time on the field with Harris, with 49% and 45% of offensive plays. Warren is the first rookie of 2022 to get an extension. Of the seven players selected in that draft, only two remain on the roster: Calvin Austin III and Connor Heyward. DeMarvin Leal was cut, but was re-signed to the practice squad last week.
