Jake Moody, the unexpected hero who gave the Bears the victory

In an unexpected turn of events, Jake Moody, recently promoted to the active roster of the Chicago Bears, became the key figure in the victory against the Washington Commanders. With a 38-yard field goal in the last second, Moody sealed the 25-24 triumph for the Bears in an exciting match. Moody, who was activated from the practice squad due to an injury to Cairo Santos, proved his worth in his debut with the team. This was the first game-winning field goal in the last second for the Bears in franchise history.

The Bears’ coach, Ben Johnson, expressed his confidence in Moody, highlighting his performance in training and his track record in decisive moments. Moody, for his part, thanked his teammates for their support and the opportunity to share that special moment.

“It’s a pretty cool series of events. A couple of days ago, I didn’t know I was going to play and be lifted up by my teammates, it’s an incredible feeling. I’m very happy to have been able to share that moment with them,” Moody commented.

Before joining the Bears, Moody started the season with the San Francisco 49ers, the team that drafted him in 2023. After missing two field goals in the first game, he was cut and subsequently signed by the Bears. In the game against the Commanders, Moody showed his composure by scoring 4 out of 5 attempts, including field goals of 47, 48, and 41 yards before the decisive one. The support of Cairo Santos, who helped him with the wind conditions and the playing field, was also fundamental to his success. The game was full of emotions, with the Commanders taking the lead after a touchdown by Jayden Daniels to Zach Ertz. However, the Bears responded with a touchdown by D’Andre Swift, who had an outstanding performance with 175 total yards and a touchdown. In the final minutes, the Bears positioned themselves for victory after a fumble by the Commanders. With 3:07 on the clock, the team relied on Swift and the running game to get closer to the scoring zone. Finally, Moody had the opportunity to seal the victory, demonstrating his ability to handle pressure.

On the other hand, Bears wide receiver DJ Moore was taken by ambulance for a precautionary medical evaluation. Moore was on the field for almost the entire last offensive series and finished the game with three receptions for 42 yards and two carries for 10 yards.
