JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Travis Hunter, receiver and cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, began his first preseason training focused exclusively on offense. However, by the middle of next week, he will be practicing on both sides of the field. The head coach, Liam Coen, revealed that the team has planned every moment of Hunter’s during training throughout the entire preseason. This plan includes Hunter playing as a receiver and cornerback on the same day, at some point during the first six practices.
Coen added: “… Every moment, every minute he is in the building, is accounted for, trying to make sure we maximize his time, our time, so we can get the best result.” Hunter dedicated most of the voluntary spring training and minicamp to the offense, as the Jaguars wanted him to learn the attack first, which was more complex due to the routes, adjustments, and modifications. He participated in the defense in one of the four voluntary training sessions open to the media and also played in defense during the last periods of the last minicamp practice. Coen explained that in the spring they learned that the long periods between practices, in which Hunter focused on only one side of the ball, were not ideal, so during the preseason they will use him on both sides more frequently. “It’s too long without doing anything on the other side of the ball,” Coen said. “We learned something there and, in addition, within these blocks where we are like three days with a day off [during the preseason], it allows us to plan it a little clearer and give it more opportunities. But every day you’re on one side of the ball, you’ll meet the other side of the ball at least once, maybe twice as well.”“We want to give him a couple of days of offense, a couple of days of defense, and then give him the opportunity to alternate within the same practice, and that will become the norm,” Coen commented after the Jaguars finished their first session at the Miller Electric Center, next to EverBank Stadium.
