JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Rookie Travis Hunter made a notable impact on offense, outshining his performance on defense during Friday night’s encounter. Jacksonville Jaguars coach Liam Coen called the player’s debut in both facets of the game a resounding success. Hunter participated in 38 plays, distributed in 17 with the starting offense and 21 with the main defense, in a scrimmage before 11,000 fans at EverBank Stadium. This was the first time Hunter played on both sides of the ball during training camp.

“I think it was great. We gave him the work we wanted on offense at first and then we were able to put him on defense and give him enough reps. That’s what we were hoping to do tonight, just put him on both sides of the ball, quality work. I know he didn’t have much action at cornerback because the starting defensive line was putting pressure on well, so it was a little hard to see.

Regarding his offensive performance, Coen added: “I think when he had the ball in his hands and operated, he did it at a high level.”

Hunter had three receptions for 43 yards, including a 21-yard reception that put the offense in the red zone. He was also targeted in the end zone on another occasion. Backup quarterback Nick Mullens did not throw passes toward Hunter on defense. Coen further praised Trevor Lawrence, describing his performance as “impressive.” Lawrence completed 19 of 27 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception. Two of Lawrence’s touchdown passes were to second-year receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who had six receptions for 65 yards. Lawrence’s other touchdown pass was a 5-yarder to tight end Brenton Strange. His interception came on a throw in the back corner of the end zone. Coen highlighted that the pass behind Hunter and the interception were the only mistakes.

“I think he made quick and accurate decisions. The ball was constantly moving. He missed some, of course. But, apart from those two throws, I think he made good decisions. I think he directed the game well. I think it was a good night for him”.
