Harrison Jr. Resurges in the Final Quarter, But the Cardinals Fall to Seattle

Despite a complicated start in Thursday night’s game against the Seahawks, Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. had the unconditional support of his quarterback, Kyler Murray. The strategy almost translated into a victory in a nationally televised game. Harrison Jr. made four receptions in the last quarter, accumulating 42 yards and a touchdown, which contributed to Arizona tying the score in the final moments, although they ultimately lost 23-20 due to a field goal by Seattle as time expired.

“He needs me, I need him,” Murray stated. “This is a team sport, a four-quarter game, and I understand that he’s not going to leave the game. I don’t want him to leave the game.

After three quarters, with the Cardinals down 17-6, Harrison Jr. had only completed two passes in six attempts for 24 yards. In addition, he was the target on both of Murray’s interceptions and also participated in a miscommunication on a route with the quarterback. Murray expressed his conviction that the interceptions likely affected Harrison Jr. after the game, as “I think Marv expects a lot from himself.” Coach Jonathan Gannon showed no concern for Harrison Jr. and praised his outstanding final performance after a difficult start, calling it “fantastic”. Despite the difficulties in the first half, the Murray-Harrison connection flourished in the second. Murray completed 5 of 5 passes for 58 yards and a touchdown, directed to Harrison after the break. Gannon told Harrison Jr. that he wanted him to play with more speed on Thursday, and then he felt that the player complied with that request. There were times when Harrison Jr. seemed dejected, but Gannon pointed out that to overcome those emotions, Harrison needed to “control the controllable,” and the team’s psychological training helped him in those situations. The Cardinals receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr., catches the ball in the end zone for one of his four receptions in the final quarter. Before that, he had only managed two receptions for 24 yards in the first three quarters.
