Maxwell Hairston Suffers Injury, But Avoids the Worst
The young Buffalo Bills cornerback, Maxwell Hairston, suffered a sprain in the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) of his right knee during Tuesday’s practice. Fortunately, tests confirmed that there was no damage to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), according to a source. The Bills have not yet specified a timeline for Hairston’s return to activity. The injury, described by cornerback Dane Jackson as a “minor stumble,” occurred during a training exercise at training camp at St. John Fisher University. Hairston was competing for the second cornerback position with veteran Tre’Davious White. Other cornerbacks on the roster, such as Dane Jackson and Ja’Marcus Ingram, are also in the fight for a spot on the team. Head athletic trainer Nate Breske attended to Hairston on the field. Christian Benford and Tre’Davious White approached to speak with Hairston before he was assisted to the medical tent.Nickel corner Taron Johnson mentioned that the team said a prayer for Hairston. Hairston, who will turn 22 on August 6, did not return to the field. The Bills have a day off from practice on Wednesday.“I was upset, because he’s a good-hearted guy, someone you work with a lot off the field, you dedicate a lot of time to, and then he goes down like that, something happens to him,” Benford said. “… You never want that to happen. You don’t even wish it on your worst enemies.”
