FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New York Giants player Gunner Olszewski suffered a concussion in Monday night’s game against the New England Patriots. The incident occurred after a hard hit to the head by linebacker Christian Elliss. Olszewski, who was returning a kickoff at the end of the first half, was hit after being destabilized by Marte Mapu. The play did not result in a penalty, as Olszewski was the ball carrier. The blow was so strong that it even damaged Olszewski’s helmet sticker.

The veteran receiver, visibly stunned, needed assistance to leave the field and go to the locker room. Subsequently, his absence for the start of the third quarter was confirmed. Olszewski has been the Giants’ primary returner for the 13 games of the season, averaging 27.9 yards per kickoff return and 8.9 yards per punt return. His fumble capped a disastrous first half for the Giants’ special teams. New York allowed a 39-yard return on the opening kickoff, conceded a 94-yard touchdown, and missed a field goal attempt. The halftime score reflected the situation, with the Giants losing 30-7.
