Broncos’ Dre Greenlaw to Serve Suspension After Appeal

Denver Broncos linebacker Dre Greenlaw will have to serve a one-game suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct. The decision was upheld after an appeal, the league announced. Greenlaw will miss the home game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. On Monday, the NFL communicated that Greenlaw “chased referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him while he was trying to leave the field” after the Broncos’ victory against the New York Giants in Denver. Greenlaw’s encounter with Allen was captured on video by a CBS Colorado reporter.

The suspension will cost Greenlaw, who will also have to miss the Broncos’ training sessions this week, a game pay of $192,778. Sunday marked Greenlaw’s first game with Denver after signing a three-year, $31.5 million contract in March. He didn’t play in the preseason or the first six regular season games due to hamstring injuries. Against the Giants, Greenlaw played 21 plays and finished with six tackles and a hit on the quarterback, as the Broncos overcame a 19-0 deficit in the fourth quarter to win 33-32 and improve their record to 5-2.
