New York Giants Fire Defensive Coordinator Shane Bowen

The New York Giants have made the decision to fire their defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, according to a source close to the situation. This measure was taken by interim coach Mike Kafka after the Giants (2-10) suffered a defeat against the Detroit Lions by 34-27 in overtime, wasting a considerable lead. This defeat made them the first team eliminated from the playoff race. The game on Sunday marked their sixth consecutive loss and the fifth this season after leading in the final quarter. Furthermore, this defeat extended their franchise record to 12 consecutive away losses, a worrying statistic. This season, the five times they have lost a double-digit lead have been away from home. The team has a 2-5 record in games where they have maintained a double-digit lead. The Giants have lost five games after leading in the fourth quarter, the most in the NFL. Last month, in Denver, they became the first team since at least 1970 to lose a game in regulation after having a lead of more than 18 points with six minutes remaining. Bowen, 38, was hired by former Giants coach Brian Daboll after the 2023 season to replace Wink Martindale. Previously, Bowen spent six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, including three as defensive coordinator.
