Videos of the incident, which captured Smith’s action, circulated widely on social media after the match.Smith added: “I just want you to know that those things won’t happen again on my part.” Smith was sacked 10 times in the Raiders’ fifth straight loss, leaving them with a 2-9 record on the season. Previously, fans booed the veteran quarterback during pre-game introductions. The team issued a statement expressing their disappointment at Smith’s actions and stating that the incident has been discussed with the player, showing the utmost respect for the fans. In August, Smith and Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby were caught on video making an obscene gesture to Seattle Seahawks fans before the start of the preseason. A fan appeared to provoke the players by displaying a sign that read: “Biggest bust: Geno or JaMarcus Russell?” Smith has struggled in his first season in Las Vegas. He has thrown for 2,367 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, tied for the most in the league. He has also been sacked 41 times, the second most in the NFL.“I want to apologize to the fans and to the Raider Nation,” Smith stated on Wednesday. “I made a bad decision out of frustration. And that’s no excuse. I have to be better and hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I am very sorry and deeply regret having done it.”
