Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith offered apologies after making an obscene gesture towards the fans after the 24-10 loss against the Cleveland Browns at Allegiant Stadium. Videos of the incident spread rapidly on social media.Smith added that actions like that will not happen again. The player was sacked 10 times in the Raiders’ fifth straight loss, leaving their record at 2-9 on the season. Previously, fans booed the quarterback during pre-game introductions. The team issued a statement expressing their disappointment and confirming that they had discussed the incident with Smith, highlighting the high value they place on the fans. In August, Smith and Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby were caught on video making a similar gesture towards Seattle Seahawks fans before a preseason game. Smith has struggled in his first season in Las Vegas, with 2,367 yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, tied for the most in the league. He has also been sacked 41 times, the second most in the NFL.“I want to apologize to the fans and to the Raider Nation,” Smith stated on Wednesday. “I made an error in judgment out of frustration. It’s not an excuse. I must be better and hold myself to a higher standard. In that moment, I didn’t. I am sincerely sorry.”
