Cowboys Fans Demand Extension for Micah Parsons
OXNARD, California – During Saturday’s practice, as Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones addressed the crowd, shouts from fans were heard calling for Micah Parsons’ contract extension. Jones, aware of the clamor, responded to the request of the followers. The desire to secure Parsons with a new contract is evident among the fans. The Cowboys finally signed Lamb to a $136 million contract at the end of August, after returning from their summer camp in Oxnard. Despite the rumors, Jones chose not to comment on the conversations with Parsons, after the organization signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year extension worth up to $52 million. Executive Vice President Stephen Jones indicated that discussions about Parsons would remain “internal.” However, he also acknowledged the fans’ enthusiasm.“I heard it, but not in comparison to how I heard them say, ‘Pay Lamb [last year]'”, Jones commented, referring to CeeDee Lamb’s negotiations from the previous year.

Negotiations with Ferguson intensified before training camp, culminating in a deal that includes $30 million guaranteed and a $12 million signing bonus. Ferguson expressed his satisfaction at remaining on the team, highlighting the privilege of playing with the star on his uniform. Selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, Ferguson has recorded 149 receptions for 1,429 yards and 7 touchdowns in 47 games. His best season was in 2023, with 71 receptions for 761 yards and 5 touchdowns, which earned him a Pro Bowl selection as a replacement. Ferguson and Jason Witten are the only tight ends in team history to record two seasons with more than 50 receptions in their first three seasons. Last season, Ferguson had 59 receptions for 494 yards, but did not score any touchdowns. He suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain in the inaugural victory against the Cleveland Browns, which limited his participation for most of the first half of the season. In the second half of the season, he missed two games due to a concussion.“We want to pay Micah too. He also has to want to be paid,” added Stephen Jones.

In addition to Parsons, the Cowboys have other players they would like to extend the contract of, such as left guard Tyler Smith, cornerback DaRon Bland, and potentially wide receiver George Pickens. All-Pro kicker Brandon Aubrey is scheduled to be a restricted free agent after the season. Stephen Jones suggested that more deals could come, although they prefer not to talk about them until they are finalized.“We have certainly appreciated what he has been in his career with us, not only as the player we want on the field, but also as a competitive leader,” said Jerry Jones. “What he does, really empowers him for everyone. And that is the consensus of all his teammates and coaches. So we are happy to have him. He has a home here for his career.”
