Falcons Back Younghoe Koo: Parker Romo Takes on Kicker Role
The Atlanta Falcons have decided to make a significant change to their roster. The team announced this Saturday that Younghoe Koo, their long-time starting kicker, has been benched for Sunday night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Instead, Parker Romo has been promoted from the practice squad. The Falcons signed Romo, a Georgia native who kicked for the Minnesota Vikings last season, on Tuesday.
The decision comes after Koo missed a 44-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds of last week’s game, which would have tied the score against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Koo only made 2 of 3 field goals against the Buccaneers, but one bounced off the right post.
Koo, who was also sidelined last season due to a hip injury, has underperformed, with only 12 of 20 field goals made in his last nine games.
At 31 years old, Koo missed nine field goals last year, achieving only 73.5%, his worst percentage since becoming the Falcons’ starting kicker in 2019.
Romo, 28 years old, had a notable performance last year, scoring 11 of 12 field goals in four games for Minnesota, his first opportunity in the NFL.
