Darnell Mooney: Questionable for Falcons Debut

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney has been listed as a “game-time decision” for the first game of the season, due to a right shoulder injury. The player himself reported this on Thursday. Mooney has been out of action since July 24, the first day of training, due to shoulder discomfort and stiffness. The injury occurred during a practice when he tried to catch a pass thrown by Michael Penix Jr. and had difficulty getting up, leaving the field with a trainer. Initially, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris indicated that Mooney would be out for “a couple of weeks.” This week, Morris has qualified Mooney’s situation as “day-to-day.” The player returned to practice this week, participating in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday.

It’s a decision that will be made at the last moment. There are some things we need to evaluate at the end of the week, but as I said, I feel good.

Last January, Mooney also missed the last game of the 2024 season due to a right shoulder injury. Currently, the 27-year-old player claims to feel good mentally and physically, and perceives no restrictions in training. Last season, Mooney had 64 receptions for 992 yards, setting a personal record with five touchdowns. Although he didn’t have many repetitions with Penix in training camp, both players worked together on several occasions during the offseason.

The connection feels good. We worked a lot in the offseason. We communicate a lot, we talk to each other and yes, I feel like everything is going well.
