Falcons’ Kaleb McGary Out with Injury
Atlanta Falcons right tackle Kaleb McGary will miss playing time due to a leg injury suffered during Wednesday’s practice. The information was confirmed by sources close to the team.
McGary was carted off the field before Wednesday’s 11-on-11 practice, but he was not fitted with an air cast. A team spokesperson indicated that McGary underwent an MRI and an update would be provided “in due course.”
The Falcons are still determining the length of McGary’s absence, but the source confirmed that “he is out”.
McGary’s replacement, Storm Norton, is also out after undergoing ankle surgery on Tuesday, which will keep him off the fields for six to eight weeks.
In place of McGary, veteran Elijah Wilkinson took over the right tackle position during practice. Wilkinson started seven games at the left guard position for the Falcons in 2022.
It is unknown how McGary’s injury occurred. The incident happened before the Falcons began their main team practice period. The players gathered before that part of the practice while McGary received medical attention. McGary was taken in a cart to the entrance of the building and appeared to support his left leg as he got out of the cart with the help of a trainer.
McGary, 30, is preparing for his seventh season as the Falcons’ starting right tackle. The former first-round pick has a crucial role in 2025 as the blindside protector for left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
McGary signed a two-year, $30 million contract extension with Atlanta earlier this month.
The Falcons travel to Dallas on Thursday for their preseason game against the Cowboys on Friday night.
