The Philadelphia Eagles’ locker room was silent on Sunday after the 24-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The players were still processing how they let a 21-point lead slip away. Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith, sitting together in their lockers, still in their game uniforms, reflected disappointment. Hurts, with a fixed gaze, and Smith, checking his phone, showed frustration.

We have to find a way to close out the game and be consistent in what we do. We didn’t play a complete game as a team, and it cost us today.

Jalen Hurts
Philadelphia started the game strong, scoring on their first three possessions. Despite reports of internal tensions surrounding the Hurts-led offense, the quarterback responded with two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown, establishing a 21-0 lead. The defense also delivered, including an interception of Dak Prescott by Reed Blankenship in the end zone. According to the statistics, the Eagles had a 96% chance of winning after that play. However, the offense sputtered. Five possessions ended in punts, one in a missed 56-yard field goal, and another in a Saquon Barkley fumble midway through the fourth quarter. Xavier Gipson also made a mistake on a kick return. The penalties were a crucial factor, with 14 infractions for the Eagles, matching their highest number under coach Nick Sirianni.

When there are as many mistakes as we had, I always take responsibility as the head coach.

The offense has struggled to find its rhythm this season, sometimes depending on the defense. On Sunday, the defensive unit suffered injuries in the secondary, which affected Philadelphia’s ability to contain Dallas’s attack. Barkley finished with 22 rushing yards on 10 carries and seven receptions for 52 yards. The 22 rushing yards were his fewest since joining the Eagles.

I am disappointed in myself, not frustrated with anyone else. I have to improve and make plays.

Saquon Barkley
Sirianni anticipates a “shitty plane ride” back home, but the team must focus quickly, as they have a short period before facing the Chicago Bears. The Eagles, with an 8-3 record, still lead the NFC East, but they need to prevent this loss from turning into a streak. It hurts when they come back, but we will respond well. This will make us hungrier.
