The Philadelphia Eagles prevailed in an intense and contested Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, maintaining the tension until the last moment. During the broadcast, Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones could be heard taunting Saquon Barkley for not reaching 100 rushing yards in the final moments of the Eagles’ 20-17 victory at Arrowhead Stadium. Just before kneeling to secure the victory, quarterback Jalen Hurts responded: “We won the damn game, shut up.” Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson commented after the game that Jones “said a lot of things out there.”

He’s probably one of the best charlatans in the league. First class.

However, Kansas City’s attempt to avenge their 40-22 defeat in February was unsuccessful. The turning point came early in the final quarter when, with the Chiefs trailing 13-10, tight end Travis Kelce failed to catch Patrick Mahomes’ pass near the goal line, and the ball bounced off his hands and fell into the possession of rookie safety Drew Mukuba. The Eagles scored on the next possession and managed to withstand a late rally to improve to 2-0 and leave Kansas City with a 0-2 record.

I think the most important thing is to find a way to win. Given the competitive nature of the game and how our matches have gone when we’ve played against this team, they’re a really good team, obviously we have a lot of respect for them, but you have to go in with a sense of focus, you have to be patient with yourself, be patient within the team and your role, and let things come to you. And I think as a team, we showed up when we needed it most.

Jalen Hurts
It wasn’t the most productive day for the Eagles on offense. Hurts was limited to 101 passing yards, Barkley finished with 88 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, and only DeVonta Smith (4 receptions, 53 yards) surpassed 30 receiving yards. However, the defense largely controlled the Chiefs, as coordinator Vic Fangio ran 12 blitzes after not blitzing Mahomes at all in the Super Bowl. Mahomes was pressured 7 times (58%), sacked once, and threw an interception on those occasions.

Our job, especially at the beginning of the season, is to find a way to win, feel proud to win in any way possible, work to improve during the week, repeat, repeat, repeat.
