Dolphins Bolster Defense with Jack Jones Acquisition
The Miami Dolphins have secured the signing of free agent cornerback Jack Jones, according to sources close to the team. This move comes after the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Artie Burns.
Jones, who started 16 games last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, was released by the team on April 7 after failing to reach a trade agreement.
The Dolphins’ need at the cornerback position became evident after the injury to Burns, who was placed on injured reserve for the season. Coach Mike McDaniel had previously expressed the team’s confidence in its current group of cornerbacks, but also its willingness to improve.
This week, Miami also added veteran cornerback Cornell Armstrong.
Jones played in 24 games with the Raiders after being claimed in 2023, following his time with the New England Patriots, where he played a full season.
In 2024, Jones accumulated career highs in tackles (69), passes defended (16), and interceptions (3).
Jones, 27, was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft by the Patriots. In his three seasons in the NFL, he has recorded seven interceptions, 27 passes defended, and 136 tackles in 42 games, with 21 as a starter.
