Urgent Meeting in the Dolphins after Defeat against the Colts

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Miami Dolphins players gathered in an exclusive session on Tuesday, the team’s day off, following the resounding 33-8 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. The main objective was to ensure that everyone was “on the same page”. The Dolphins allowed Indianapolis to score on all seven of their offensive possessions on Sunday. In addition, their 211 total offensive yards marked their lowest figure under coach Mike McDaniel in a game where quarterback Tua Tagovailoa started. Tagovailoa’s performance in this game was one of the worst of his career. He completed 14 of 23 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown, but threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, recording the worst passer rating in a full game. After the game, the Dolphins’ quarterback expressed his interest in seeing which teammates would attend the video analysis on Tuesday. Speaking on Wednesday, he was pleased with the participation.

We gathered the offense and had a meeting about the aspects we wanted to focus on this week, the key points, and how we wanted to approach the work this week. We communicated all that to the guys, and that’s what we have.

Last season, the Dolphins lost six of their first eight games and, despite a late improvement, finished with an 8-9 record, missing out on the AFC playoff race. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks explained that Tuesday’s meeting served to prevent the situation from getting out of control after a potentially demoralizing defeat.

Losing the way we lost can be disheartening. The outside noise – people talking, family talking, everyone talking. (The meeting was) simply to make sure we were all together. When you lose like that, it’s easy for people to get discouraged, start questioning themselves or others. So we made sure everyone got refocused, making sure faith was still present.
