Lions’ Thanksgiving Defeat: Analysis and Reactions

The Detroit Lions suffered a defeat against the Green Bay Packers in the traditional Thanksgiving game, with a final score of 31-24. Coach Dan Campbell admitted that the team is in a complicated moment after this defeat, leaving the record at 7-5.

We’ve gotten ourselves into a little hole, but that’s all. There’s nothing more than that. We just have to worry about getting better and winning the next game.

The Lions have had a difficult performance in the last nine Thanksgiving games, with a record of 1-8. In addition to the defeat, the team faced challenges due to injuries to key players. Prior to the game, the Lions were already dealing with injuries to tight ends Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, wide receiver Kalif Raymond, and starting center Graham Glasgow on offense. To this was added the injury of Amon-Ra St. Brown, who left the game in the first quarter due to an ankle injury and did not return. St. Brown is expected to miss one or two weeks of play. In the absence of St. Brown, Tom Kennedy, who was promoted to the active team on Wednesday night, had a good performance with four receptions for 36 yards. Isaac TeSlaa also stood out by achieving his third receiving touchdown of the season, on a 17-yard pass from Jared Goff, bringing the Lions closer on the scoreboard. Jameson Williams led the Lions’ offense with seven receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown. Jared Goff acknowledged the importance of connecting with Williams in key moments of the game. Goff completed 20 of 26 passes with two touchdowns. The Lions failed to convert on fourth down twice against the Packers, totaling 0 for 7 on fourth-down attempts since Week 11, the most in the league. Campbell, who took over offensive play-calling responsibilities in Week 10, feels he can improve in this role. Despite averaging 29.6 points per game before the Thanksgiving game, the Lions have lost four of their last seven games.
