Jayden Daniels Could Return to the Commanders This Week
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is on track to return to practice this week, although his participation in the game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night is still uncertain, according to coach Dan Quinn. Daniels, who has not yet been cleared for contact, has not played since suffering a dislocated left elbow during the game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 2nd. Despite the injury, Daniels did not require surgery nor did he suffer structural damage to his elbow. The Commanders did not place him on the injured reserve list, suggesting hopes for a possible return. Quinn revealed that the possibility of benching Daniels for the rest of the season was not discussed internally. At the time of the injury, Washington had a 3-6 record and is currently at 3-8 before the matchup against Denver (9-2), accumulating six consecutive losses. The coach also indicated that it is not yet clear when Daniels will be back on the field.Daniels has been out for five games this season due to three different injuries. He missed weeks 3 and 4 due to a sprained left knee and suffered a right hamstring injury in week 7. In six games this season, Daniels, the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, has thrown for 1,184 yards, eight touchdowns, and two interceptions. In addition, he has rushed for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Quinn also mentioned that they would like to see the full starting offense to learn more about what they need in the future. For Daniels, part of what they want to see is him play the position “as safely as possible”.It’s important for Jayden to start playing and learn to perform in this position at the highest competitive level, but also safely. Those are repetitions that also develop. It’s a skill like throwing and processing. All those things are important.
