Dak Prescott on Micah Parsons’ Contract Situation with the Cowboys
Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Micah Parsons’ contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott, who has experienced similar situations, has offered his perspective on the matter. Parsons’ situation has generated anticipation, and Prescott’s statements shed light on the process and the expectations involved. Prescott, who has experienced prolonged contract negotiations with the Cowboys, including a deal that made him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, understands the challenges Parsons faces. “I don’t know if there’s a right way to handle it, to be honest,” Prescott commented. “I’ll say that I think he deserves to get paid. I think he should get his payment and, ultimately, based on the history of what I’ve seen, he will get paid. Hopefully it’s as soon as possible.” Parsons, despite being present on the field during the first days of training camp, has still not participated in practices. On Thursday, he didn’t even wear his cleats, although he mentioned feeling discomfort in his back. Negotiations between the Cowboys and Parsons’ agent have not yet formally begun, despite a prior meeting between the player and owner and general manager Jerry Jones in March. In that meeting, Jones and Parsons agreed on the length of the contract, as well as the guaranteed and total money, but the talks did not advance. Since then, several of the league’s top pass rushers have signed extensions.Parsons expressed his disappointment at the lack of agreement, even hinting that it could be his last year with the Cowboys, although he has reiterated his desire to remain with the organization that selected him in the first round in 2021. In recent years, the Cowboys have taken longer to reach agreements or renegotiate contracts with their players. “It’s a conversation every year, whether it’s with me, Zack Martin, CeeDee Lamb, now Micah Parsons,” Prescott explained. “It’s part of it in a sense. Is it something I wish any of us were going through? Absolutely not, but I think Micah is doing a great job being here. He’s a great teammate, he shows up obviously not only on the field and concentrates, but also on camaraderie, going out, having dinner. He’s not doing it just to sign and say, ‘Hey, Jerry, look at me,’ but he wants to be practicing. And, honestly, I’m glad he’s not doing it. He can’t do that to himself. That’s the business. That’s the business of a strike, so I think he’s taken great steps by being here.” In a recent press conference, Jones downplayed the lack of a signed agreement for Parsons. He also generated controversy by pointing out that a contract does not guarantee the player’s health. Lamb, who missed a large part of training camp last year before signing a contract that made him the second-highest paid receiver in the NFL, also expressed his support for Parsons. “For Micah, man, he knows I love him and being in this situation, obviously playing this media game with Jerry isn’t the best. It’s not fun. It’s not advisable,” Lamb commented. “But as for Micah, he knows what he brings to this table, honestly, for this team, for himself. And he should get what he deserves and I’m not going to get involved in the craziness they have. But I want Micah to get paid soon.”“For Micah, man, he knows I love him and being in this situation, obviously playing this media game with Jerry isn’t the best. It’s not fun. It’s not recommended,” Lamb said.
