Geno Smith and Maxx Crosby, in the Eye of the Hurricane for Offensive Gestures

In an incident that has generated controversy, Geno Smith, quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, and Maxx Crosby, defensive end for the team, were caught making obscene gestures towards the Seattle Seahawks fans. The act occurred before Thursday night’s preseason game.

Several videos documenting Smith and Crosby’s actions quickly spread on social media on Friday.

In one of the videos, the team is seen gathered about to enter the field. Crosby appears to interact with the fans and tries to grab a banner. Subsequently, Smith joins Crosby in the action, looking towards the supporters. As the team runs onto the field, Smith makes an offensive gesture, immediately followed by Crosby.

According to reports, a fan appeared to be provoking the players before the gestures.

One of the banners said: “Biggest bust: Geno or JaMarcus Russell?”

The Oakland Raiders, at the time, selected Russell in the first position of the 2007 draft. However, his performance as a starting quarterback was 7-18, playing only three seasons.

Smith was the Seahawks’ starter for the last three seasons, before failing to reach an agreement for a new contract. He followed his former coach, Pete Carroll, when the Raiders acquired him.

The Thursday game concluded with a 23-23 tie.
