Jayden Daniels Cleared to Play for the Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been medically cleared to return to the field. This means he could participate in Sunday’s upcoming game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Coach Dan Quinn confirmed that Daniels will be a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. Last week, his participation was limited.During the media’s open practice, Daniels performed his usual exercises, even with a brace on his left knee. Although he doesn’t like to use it, he’s willing to do so. Daniels missed the previous two games due to a left knee sprain, an injury sustained in Week 2. The Commanders went 1-1 with Marcus Mariota at quarterback, scoring a total of 61 points in those games.“I plan to be on the field Sunday,” Daniels stated.

Quinn indicated that Daniels will have every opportunity on the field and that he wants to make sure the quarterback is in top form and executes the offense with the right timing.“As a competitor, you want to help your team in every way possible. Being out these last few weeks was very tough,” Daniels expressed.

Daniels stated that he felt good last week, but Quinn said he had not yet been medically cleared. The coach highlighted Daniels’ consistent focus on improvement and that the team has seen him throw at full speed. Quinn also commented that it wasn’t easy to tell Daniels that he wouldn’t be playing in the last two weeks, but that, after 18 months together, he knows when his quarterback is ready.“He’s eager to get back… Just run the offense, be himself again,” Quinn added.

Daniels, who was awarded the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2024, completed 43 of 72 passes for 433 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games of the season. In addition, he ran 18 times for 85 yards.“And trusting each other to do it, that’s a big part,” Quinn said.

Daniels will keep running, seeking the balance between protecting himself and moving forward.“The only thing worse than missing games is not learning lessons,” Quinn commented. “In the races, when do I hit the ground? When do I leave the field? Jayden is still growing. That’s the fun and exciting part. He’s not even close to what he’s going to be, that excites me.”

“Obviously, you want to be available for the rest of the games, but you have to be smart. We’re talking about living to see another play. But you have to know that the game is on the line. I’ll do whatever it takes,” he concluded.
