Nate Herbig Announces His Retirement from the NFL
Washington Commanders offensive lineman Nate Herbig has informed the team of his decision to retire from the NFL, according to coach Dan Quinn on Monday. The franchise placed him on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday morning.
Herbig arrived at the Commanders during the offseason, looking to strengthen the interior line.
Before joining Washington, Herbig had experience with three different organizations.
Herbig debuted in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019, after being an undrafted free agent. He also played for the New York Jets for one season and played two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that also selected his brother, Nick, in the fourth round of the 2023 draft.
Both at the end of the 2022 season with the Jets and in 2024, Herbig was on the injured reserve list. Throughout his NFL career, he participated in 61 games, starting in 30 of them. His 12 starts in 2020 with the Eagles and 11 with the Steelers two years ago stand out. Last season he suffered a rotator cuff tear.
