Quentin Johnston Leaves Field on a Stretcher After Collision

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston left Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams on a medical stretcher after taking a hit that left him motionless on the field for several minutes.

The Rams’ safety, Tanner Ingle, impacted Johnston while he was trying to secure a pass from quarterback Justin Herbert, with his head turned in the opposite direction. The moment generated tension in SoFi Stadium, as Johnston remained motionless on the ground for several minutes, with the trainers preparing a stretcher for him. Coach Jim Harbaugh and wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal also ran onto the field to see how Johnston was doing.

Johnston finally sat down, but showed frustration, hitting his gloves against the ground before leaving on the stretcher.

Harbaugh opted to align all the starters in this preseason game, except safety Derwin James and outside linebacker Khalil Mack. Johnston is expected to be the Chargers’ main deep pass threat this season; losing him for a significant time could give more opportunities to rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert Smith.

Lambert-Smith also left Saturday’s game due to an injury.

Johnston, the Chargers’ first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, finished last season with 55 receptions, 711 yards, and led the team in receiving touchdowns.
