Bills’ Maxwell Hairston to Injured Reserve List

Buffalo Bills rookie Maxwell Hairston, selected in the first round of the 2025 draft, will remain out of action due to a sprain of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his right knee. The team has placed him on the injured reserve list with a designation to return this Tuesday. This means the cornerback will miss, at a minimum, the first four games of the season, but will be able to play again after that period. Hairston suffered the injury during individual drills in training camp practice on July 29 and has not returned to practice since. The rookie was competing for the No. 2 cornerback spot with veteran Tre’Davious White before the injury. White left Thursday’s practice early due to a lower leg injury, but is on the 53-player roster. The Bills reported that they had not decided whether Hairston would be placed on the injured reserve list until Tuesday, when NFL teams had to reduce their active rosters to 53 players. Hairston’s inclusion on the injured reserve list opened up opportunities for players like Ja’Marcus Ingram and rookie Dorian Strong.

There’s still some time. From what I heard… from head athletic trainer Nate Breske, he’s really trying to get a good feel for what we’re dealing with in terms of when we can start pushing a little bit more without affecting the healing… I have a feeling we’re headed in the right direction.

Coach Sean McDermott
Offensive lineman Tylan Grable was also placed on the injured reserve list with a designation to return. He had been in concussion protocol.
