Cowboys: Micah Parsons Will Need “Ramp Up” For Debut vs. Eagles

Micah Parsons Could Have Limited Minutes in the Game Against the Eagles

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer avoided going into detail about his meeting with Micah Parsons after the star linebacker didn’t wear his uniform and lay on a medical stretcher during Friday’s preseason game. However, Schottenheimer reiterated that Parsons will be available for the September 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Schottenheimer first admitted that Parsons could have limited minutes in his participation against the current Super Bowl champions if he plays.

At the end of the day, as soon as he can get out on the field, that’s great, but there will be a plan for him. And when he lines up to play, do I think he’ll play 75 plays and every play? Probably not. I don’t think that’s realistic. But I do think he can be very disruptive, as we all know.

Parsons hasn’t practiced all summer due to a hold related to a contract extension that doesn’t seem to be close to materializing at this time. The Cowboys appear to be content with Parsons playing the season on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, valued at $21.324 million. Parsons underwent an MRI on his back on Friday, the results of which were favorable, and Schottenheimer said that “at this time,” Parsons is medically cleared to practice. After the three days of rest required by league rules, the Cowboys will return to training on Friday. They will have three practices on Sunday, Monday, and September 2nd before traveling to Philadelphia. Schottenheimer also added:

Every day he can go out and do reps would be great, but I firmly believe that being around has helped him. Doing some of the walk-throughs and things like that, yes, it helps. There’s communication, there are signals coming from the sideline, there’s player-to-player communication, he’s getting all those things.
