Abdul Carter, Giants Rookie, Experiences a Complicated Start to His Career

In a recent game against the New England Patriots, New York Giants rookie Abdul Carter did not start or play in the early stages of the match, which ended in a 33-15 defeat. Interim coach Mike Kafka explained that the decision to bench Carter was a “coach’s decision” and not related to an injury. Carter missed two offensive series for the Patriots, both resulting in points for the opposing team. Finally, Carter entered the game in the Giants’ first defensive series in the second quarter. He had an immediate impact, recording his first sack as a professional by stopping quarterback Drake Maye, thus ending a New England offensive series. This is not the first setback for Carter. In a November 16 game against the Green Bay Packers, Carter was also relegated to the bench for missing a practice. The player argued that he was receiving medical treatment, while the team thought he had overslept. Kafka imposed this discipline to emphasize responsibility and accountability. After the defeat against the Packers, Kafka also described the situation as a “coach’s decision”.

I made a mistake during the week that was detrimental to the team. That was the consequence. I have to live with that.

Abdul Carter
This is the second time Carter has lost playing time since Kafka took over instead of Brian Daboll, who was fired last month. Several players have commented that accountability has been an issue within the team. The Giants have suffered seven consecutive losses and have accumulated 13 consecutive away losses, counting from last season. Carter, selected in the third position of this year’s draft, coming from Penn State, arrived at Monday’s game with only half a sack in 12 games, despite being second on the team with 12 quarterback hits.
