SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner was carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, which ended in a 16-15 loss.
Conner suffered an injury to his right ankle, which forced the trainers to attend to him quickly after a 9-yard run with 12:26 remaining in the third quarter.
The players from both teams knelt as they attended to Conner. The entire Cardinals bench entered the field to see Conner as he was being put on the stretcher.
Before his injury, Conner, 30, had managed nine carries for 22 yards. This was his longest run since Week 1.
The player is coming off two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, the first of his career. In November 2024, he signed a two-year extension that would keep him in Arizona through the 2026 season. His base salary of $3.64 million for this year is injury guaranteed.
