The starting left tackle for the New England Patriots, Will Campbell, could return this season despite the knee injury suffered during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. That’s how coach Mike Vrabel announced it this Monday, who also mentioned that Campbell could be placed on the injured reserve list, but hopes he won’t be out for the entire season. The situation is encouraging for the Patriots, who have a 10-2 record. Concerns were high on Sunday when Campbell was taken off the field on a stretcher. The team prepares to receive the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football” on December 1st, before their bye week. The Patriots have four key games ahead: against the Buffalo Bills (December 14), against the Baltimore Ravens (December 21), against the New York Jets (December 28), and against the Miami Dolphins (January 3-4). Vrabel hinted in a radio interview that Campbell suffered a knee sprain.
Campbell, the fourth overall draft pick, has started every game. The Patriots’ starting offensive line remained unchanged in 10 of their first 11 games. Starting left guard Jared Wilson was also carted off after injuring his right ankle early in Sunday’s game. Vrabel indicated that it’s “too early to tell” about Wilson’s status. All-Pro special teams player Brenden Schooler (ankle) and defensive tackle number 3 Khyiris Tonga (chest) also did not finish Sunday’s game. Tonga replaced Milton Williams, who was placed on the reserve list due to injury on November 15 due to a high ankle sprain. Vrabel said he will evaluate Tonga’s evolution during the week.Sprains have different degrees of severity. I’m not sure of the severity, but I don’t expect him to play on Monday against the Giants.
