Tennessee Titans fans show their frustration after another disappointing loss, this time to the Indianapolis Colts, with a score of 41-20 that leaves the team with a record of 0-3. The “Fire Callahan” chants echoed through the stadium, directed at coach Brian Callahan, as the team headed to the locker room with a 20-6 halftime deficit. Callahan, when asked about it, downplayed the situation.

I don’t really worry about that, to be honest. My focus is on trying to make sure our football team is in the best possible position, and the rest is what it is. I don’t think about those things, and you really can’t. This is already difficult enough to add those other things and think about that. It doesn’t do anyone any good. So, I’m just going to work and work as hard as I can. I put as much effort as I can into this and that’s what it is.

In his second season as Titans coach, Callahan has a 3-17 record. A tactical decision on the field generated criticism. With 46 seconds remaining in the first half and facing a fourth and one yard on the Colts’ 39-yard line, Callahan was indecisive between attempting the conversion or a field goal. This resulted in a delay of game penalty, costing five yards and increasing the difficulty of Joey Slye’s field goal attempt, which he ultimately missed. Callahan explained that he was deliberating on the best option. “We were going back and forth and wanted a minute to think about it. I was undecided between the play on fourth down and the field goal, and I decided to go for the points in that particular situation, but the operational part of kicking on time didn’t happen.” The Titans have fired a head coach or general manager in the last three seasons. Callahan could be the fourth if he fails to turn the team’s fortunes around quickly. The Titans will face three consecutive away games, starting with the Houston Texans next week, followed by trips to the West Coast to face the Arizona Cardinals and the Las Vegas Raiders. The Titans have been outscored by their opponents with an overall score of 94-51 in the first three games. The Titans’ quarterback, Cam Ward, has expressed his support for Callahan and wishes to continue playing under his direction. Ward shares Callahan’s attitude towards fan criticism.

I’m really not too concerned about that. We didn’t do enough to win the game today. If I were them, I’d be mad too. I’m trying to win football games just like them. So, if that’s what they’re going to do, we have to focus as a group in the locker room and keep motivating ourselves, pushing ourselves, and trying to get a win.
