Caleb Williams Responds to Criticism After Bears Victory

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams downplayed comments about his performance after the team’s “Monday Night Football” victory.

“People are going to say what they have to say. We win, we lose; people have things to say. It was luck, it wasn’t luck; people have things to say. You have a bad game, you have a good game; people have things to say. It doesn’t matter. We only care about what’s going on here inside this building and with these guys. That’s all I can say about it.”

Williams was questioned about the characterization of his performance as “out of place” during the “Monday Night Football” broadcast. Analyst Troy Aikman suggested that Williams needed to improve the accuracy of his passes so that receivers would gain more yards after the reception. During the game, Williams threw a short pass to D’Andre Swift, who ran 55 yards for a touchdown, reducing the lead of the Washington Commanders. Aikman commented that a missed tackle by Quan Martin allowed Swift’s play. Williams, jokingly, responded to Aikman’s characterization of the touchdown in an Instagram post.

Bears coach Ben Johnson also addressed the criticism, stating that any way of winning is important in the league. Johnson added that the team seeks to earn respect, but focuses on its daily work and supporting each other. Williams confirmed that he did not meet with the “Monday Night Football” broadcast team due to a scheduling conflict. Williams anticipates that perceived criticisms will serve as motivation for the future. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 252 yards and contributed two touchdowns against the Commanders, leading the Bears to their second consecutive comeback victory and extending their winning streak to three games.
