Joe Burrow Remains Out of Action for the Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, Joe Burrow, will not be available for Sunday’s game against the Patriots, the team announced on Saturday. Burrow will remain on the injured reserve list, and Joe Flacco will make his sixth consecutive start for the Bengals. Burrow had been listed as questionable to return against the Patriots after showing significant progress in his recovery from a toe injury that has kept him out of action since Week 2. The two-time Pro Bowl player participated fully in Wednesday and Thursday’s practices before being limited on Friday. Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Burrow did everything he could to put himself in a position to play, and Burrow stated that there were no setbacks during the week. However, Taylor made the decision to keep Burrow out for at least one more week. The Bengals have two games in five days, with a matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving Day.

You play a game on Sunday, you play a game on Thursday. You have to take all that into account. He has tried to put himself in a position to be ready to play.

Burrow has been aggressive in his attempts to return from previous injuries. The most notable instance was his calf injury in 2023, which he played with at the beginning of the season and which he aggravated shortly after. For Taylor, it was important to make a decision that was in Burrow’s best interest.

I have to take into account what’s best for him. He’s coming back from an injury. He’s been out for a long time. I know he has the right mentality and has done everything he can physically. And then I have to take into account what’s best for him, what’s best for the team, and make the most sensible decision.

Zac Taylor, Bengals coach
The Bengals (3-7) have lost seven of eight games since Burrow was injured in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cincinnati is looking to end a three-game losing streak on Sunday against New England (9-2).
