Emeka Egbuka Suffers Muscle Injury: Concern in the Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka suffered a hamstring injury during the game against the San Francisco 49ers, resulting in his absence from the match. Egbuka, selected at the 19th position in the draft, had accumulated 445 receiving yards before Sunday’s game, ranking among the best in the league. In addition, his five touchdowns positioned him as one of the top scorers. Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles reported that Egbuka was being evaluated after the game. The absence of Egbuka presented an additional challenge for quarterback Baker Mayfield, who has been considered an early MVP candidate. However, Mayfield proved his worth by avoiding a sack and making a 15-yard run on third down and 14 to go. Subsequently, he connected with rookie Tez Johnson on a 45-yard touchdown pass, bringing the score to 27-19 before the final quarter. The Buccaneers were already dealing with the absence of Mike Evans, who missed three games due to a hamstring injury, and Chris Godwin, who suffered a fibula injury after returning from ankle surgery. In addition, running back Bucky Irving missed his second game due to a foot sprain and a shoulder subluxation. Jalen McMillan, receiver who suffered a neck sprain in the second preseason game, is on the injured reserve list, but is expected to be able to return after the team’s bye week. Evans has not yet returned to training, but his recovery is expected to take between three and four weeks, which could allow his return in the next game against the Detroit Lions. Coach Bowles indicated that Godwin’s injury is “week to week”.“It was huge,” Bowles said of the plays. “Every time something negative happens, he turns it into something positive and gives everyone hope, and that run was one of them.”

“I genuinely trust the players who are on the field,” Mayfield stated. “They are ready. We talked during the week. The players are on the same page, and that’s real. I trust these guys, even though some haven’t played much, but if we’re on the same page, good things happen. You don’t need the perfect play when all your players fight for each other and are on the same page, and that’s an example of it.”
