Tristan Wirfs, Buccaneers Star, Could Miss Season Start Due to Injury
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ star left tackle, Tristan Wirfs, could miss the start of the regular season due to a knee injury, according to sources close to the team. Wirfs is likely to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. If this happens, the player would miss at least the first four Tampa Bay games. Wirfs underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday, after initially injuring his right knee last season.Wirfs, a two-time All-Pro, wore a knee brace during the Buccaneers’ offseason program. The news of Wirfs’ injury was first reported on Wednesday. Despite the injury, Wirfs played 16 games last season and was selected for his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl. Wirfs, 26, was Tampa Bay’s first-round pick in the 2020 draft and has played in 79 games, all as a starter, during his five-year career with the Buccaneers. After experiencing multiple setbacks, he opted to undergo surgery instead of continuing to play with the injury.
