Courtland Sutton secures his future with the Broncos
The Denver Broncos and wide receiver Courtland Sutton have reached an agreement to extend his contract for four years and $92 million, which will extend until the 2029 season. The agreement includes $41 million guaranteed. Sutton, who was the team captain, was in the final year of his previous contract. The receiver had reported for training camp with the Denver veterans and had participated in practices, although with certain restrictions during the negotiations. Coach Sean Payton had maintained that a new deal for Sutton would come at the right time. For his part, Sutton, who is the second-longest tenured player in Denver, has expressed his desire to finish his career with the Broncos. Sutton, a key player for the team, finished the 2024 season with 81 receptions, his personal best. He was Bo Nix’s most reliable target, accumulating 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. Sutton proved to be the player Nix turned to most in contested situations. He was tied for seventh in the league in tight-window targets, with minimal separation from the nearest defender, and was the only Denver player in the top 90 in the league in this category. The Broncos have added Evan Engram and Pat Bryant to their offense, and Payton is counting on Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, and Devaughn Vele to expand their roles on the team. Sutton remains Denver’s leader in goals, receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He has proven to be Nix’s first option in various situations. Sutton is one of the undisputed leaders in the locker room. Coach Payton highlights his work ethic, toughness, and daily consistency, considering him a role model and a positive leader for the team.“I have a lot of confidence in Court. … He’ll always be in the right spot and he’ll fight for every play. All of our guys fight, but Court is very good.”
