The Carolina Panthers have decided to release pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, according to sources.

The situation of the three-time Pro Bowl selection outside linebacker in Carolina was uncertain. This came after general manager Dan Morgan did not commit to answering questions during the NFL draft about whether Clowney was part of the team’s plans for 2025.

The Panthers held conversations about the possibility of trading the player, who was the first pick of the 2014 draft by the Houston Texans, before the 2025 NFL draft, according to a league source.

Clowney was about to enter the final year of a two-year, $20 million contract he signed with Carolina last season. In the previous season, he recorded 5.5 sacks with the Panthers.
