Brandon Graham Comes Out of Retirement to Bolster the Eagles

Defensive end Brandon Graham has decided to end his retirement and return to the Philadelphia Eagles. The news was confirmed this Tuesday, marking the return of an emblematic player for the franchise. The Eagles announced that Graham, who holds the record for being the player with the longest tenure in the team’s history, has signed a one-year contract to play his 16th season with Philadelphia.

I have no expectations, I’m excited to get back into action.

Graham expressed in his podcast that he is “excited” to return and that his main motivation is to “add value to the team”. Graham’s return comes after Za’Darius Smith’s sudden retirement last week, which left a void in the Eagles’ defensive line. The Eagles faced questions at the defensive end position following the departures of Graham and Josh Sweat. Adding to this was the injury of Nolan Smith Jr., who was placed on the injured reserve list last month. Ogbo Okoronkwo was also placed on the reserve list due to a triceps injury after the Week 4 game. Graham, 37, returned from a triceps tear to play in last season’s Super Bowl, where the Eagles secured their second championship, in what was believed to be his final game.

If he comes back, of course. He’s like an uncle to us, a very important piece that helped us win the Super Bowl. I think he would add depth and strength to the team.

Graham is the player with the most regular season games played with the Eagles (206) and ranks third in franchise history with 76.5 sacks. He was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2020 and achieved his first double-digit sack season in 2022, with 11. Graham’s play, a sack on Tom Brady in the final moments of Super Bowl LII, secured the victory over the New England Patriots and the first Lombardi trophy for Philadelphia.
