Bills’ Khalil Shakir Out With Injury
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir will be “week-to-week” due to a high right ankle sprain and did not participate in Sunday’s practice, according to coach Sean McDermott.Shakir, 25, was MVP Josh Allen’s primary target last year, leading the Bills in receiving yards (821), receptions (76), and targets (100). He received a four-year contract extension this offseason. The injury occurred during Friday night’s practice, forcing him to leave the field early with the athletic trainers. The team had a day off on Saturday before resuming practice at St. John Fisher University on Sunday. The Bills’ receiving corps has faced multiple injuries in the first week of training camp. Curtis Samuel and Kaden Prather continue to be unable to participate in practices due to hamstring injuries, while Joshua Palmer is out with a groin injury. Starting safety Taylor Rapp (knee) was also added to the injury report. He missed Sunday’s practice, as did safety Cole Bishop (quadriceps), who hasn’t practiced since missing a large part of Tuesday’s session. Right tackle Spencer Brown (back) and linebacker Terrel Bernard (hamstrings) returned to practice on Sunday and participated in individual drills. Other players who have missed playing time include offensive linemen Alec Anderson (left knee) and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (calf), fullback Reggie Gilliam (groin), kicker Tyler Bass (pelvic area pain), linebackers Shaq Thompson (hamstring) and Dorian Williams (calf). McDermott has adjusted practices due to the number of injuries.Shakir has dealt with this type of injury before. He is extremely tough and a key piece of our offense. It will take time, as is usually the case with high ankle sprains. This represents an opportunity for other players to prove their worth and we will see how they perform.

The Bills will begin their preseason against the New York Giants on Saturday. We’ve tried to scale things back in hopes of getting some players back, but it hasn’t worked. It’s time to move on, and we have to work to move the team forward.
