Khalil Shakir, Bills receiver, suffers ankle sprain

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir will be “week-to-week” due to a right ankle sprain, according to coach Sean McDermott on Sunday.

Shakir, 25, was Josh Allen’s primary target last season, leading the Bills in receiving yards (821), receptions (76), and targets (100). He received a four-year contract extension this offseason.

Shakir’s injury occurred during Friday night practice, leaving early with the athletic trainers. The team had a day off on Saturday before resuming practice at St. John Fisher University on Sunday.

The Bills’ receiving corps has dealt with a series of injuries in the first week of training camp. Curtis Samuel and Kaden Prather are out of practice with hamstring injuries, while Joshua Palmer is dealing with a groin injury.

Starting safety Taylor Rapp (knee) is also added to the injured list. He will miss Sunday’s practice along with safety Cole Bishop (quadriceps), who has not practiced since missing a large part of Tuesday’s session.

The Bills begin their preseason series against the New York Giants on Saturday.
