The Buffalo Bills strengthen their squad with the incorporation of veterans after announcing a series of one-year agreements.
Offensive Line and Receiving Corps Reinforcements
The team has secured the services of two key players for the offensive line: Austin Corbett, who can play guard and center, and Lloyd Cushenberry III, also a center. In addition, receiver Trent Sherfield Sr. joins, bringing experience and versatility to the team.
The need to reinforce the offensive line arose after the departure of David Edwards, who signed with the Saints. Corbett, with experience in the right guard and center positions, has also played as a left guard, making him a potential competitor for Edwards’ position. Alec Anderson is also in contention for the left guard position.
New Players Details
Austin Corbett, 30 years old, arrives after four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he played as center and right guard. Previously, he played for the Los Angeles Rams and the Cleveland Browns, the team that selected him in the second round of the 2018 draft.
Both Corbett and Cushenberry have dealt with significant injuries in recent years. Corbett suffered an ACL tear in 2022, an MCL injury in 2023, a biceps tear in 2024, and a new MCL injury last season.
Cushenberry was released by the Titans on February 25th due to a physical failure, which means it will not affect the Bills’ compensatory selections. He is expected to compete with Sedrick Van Pran-Granger for the backup center position, behind Connor McGovern, who signed a four-year contract.
Cushenberry played 23 games with Tennessee in the last two seasons. He was in the third year of a four-year, $50 million contract that he signed in 2024, after spending his first four years with the Denver Broncos. This deal made him one of the highest-paid centers in the NFL.
Cushenberry, 28, participated in eight games in 2024 after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Week 9. Before the injury, he allowed one sack and had an 89% pass block success rate that season. After starting last season’s training camp on the physically unable to perform list, Cushenberry was activated in August and played 15 games.
Sherfield, 30, brings experience in receiving and will contribute on special teams, after his time with the Bills in 2023. His most notable play was a touchdown reception in the last game of the regular season against the Miami Dolphins.
