Bills Secure DJ Moore: New Target for Josh Allen
The Buffalo Bills have made a strategic move to bolster their offense, acquiring wide receiver DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears, according to sources.
This transfer represents a significant reinforcement for quarterback Josh Allen, adding a new weapon to his offensive arsenal.
In exchange for Moore and a fifth-round pick in 2026, the Bills will send the Bears a second-round pick in the 2026 draft.
Moore’s agents confirmed that the Bills will guarantee $15.5 million of the player’s $23.5 million base salary in 2028. In addition, his $23.5 million base salary in 2026 is fully guaranteed, and his 2027 salary will be guaranteed next week.
The official agreement will be formalized at the beginning of the new league year next Wednesday.
DJ Moore, who will turn 29 on April 14, will reunite with the new Bills head coach, Joe Brady. Both coincided in the Carolina Panthers, where Brady was offensive coordinator in 2020 and much of 2021.
During his time in Carolina, Moore had two of his best seasons under Brady’s direction, including an average of 18.1 yards per reception in 2020 and accumulating more than 1,100 receiving yards in both years.
This move is reminiscent of the acquisition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs by Bills general manager Brandon Beane in 2020.
The need for a quality receiver was evident for the Bills, especially after a 2025 season with inconsistencies at that position.
Moore will join a group of receivers for the 2026 season, which includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, and Curtis Samuel, Moore’s former teammate on the Panthers.
Moore arrived in Chicago as part of the trade that brought the first overall pick to the Panthers in 2023. His connection with former Bears quarterback Justin Fields resulted in a standout year for Moore, with 1,364 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in his first season.
However, Moore’s production declined starting in the 2023 season, due to new offensive schemes and changes in the coaching staff and quarterback.
In the 2024 season, with Caleb Williams as a rookie, Moore led the team in receptions with 98 and accumulated 966 yards, but in 2025, his role changed.
The emergence of tight end Colston Loveland, along with receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III, led Moore to a career low in receptions (50) and receiving yards (682).
Two years after the Bears gave him a four-year, $110 million contract extension, the largest in franchise history, Chicago sought to create space among an overpopulated group of receivers.
Moore’s durability was one of his greatest assets during the 2025 season. He played all 17 games and was the receiver of some of the best catches of the season, including a 46-yard touchdown in overtime to beat the Green Bay Packers on December 20th.
