The Chicago Bears are Projected to the Postseason After Defeating the Eagles
The Chicago Bears are ready to focus on the postseason after a resounding 24-15 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, the current Super Bowl champions. This triumph, obtained at Lincoln Financial Field, validates the Bears’ outstanding season under the direction of their coach, Ben Johnson. The Bears have demonstrated their superiority by winning nine of their last ten games, which has allowed them to rise to second place in the National Conference (NFC), a position previously held by the Eagles. The victory against the Eagles, a team considered a contender, sends a clear message about the Bears’ aspirations. After a streak of five consecutive victories, the longest since 2018, the team’s mindset has changed, now focusing on the playoffs.“We are really here,” stated running back D’Andre Swift.

The post-match locker room celebration included an emotional gesture from coach Johnson and promises of rewards from a local restaurant, as a sign of support for the team. The ground game was key to the Bears’ victory. Swift and Kyle Monangai led the attack, adding 281 yards, the second-best mark of the season. The Bears dominated the time of possession of the ball by almost 19 minutes, and achieved 17 of their 28 first attempts running the ball, compared to the Eagles’ 2. Swift and Monangai both scored, which hadn’t happened since 1985, when Walter Payton and Matt Suhey achieved the same feat. Monangai extended his streak to four consecutive games with rushing touchdowns, becoming the third Bears rookie to achieve it.“We should have confidence in ourselves. We must not shy away from anything. We are on a roll and can continue to improve. We must think about the playoffs. We have many ‘dogs’ in the locker room, and that’s how we go, we are changing the culture. That’s how we must think,” declared safety Jaquan Brisker.

The Bears’ defense featured the return of Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon, which boosted team morale. Gordon, who was the first pick of the 2022 draft, sees in these victories the confirmation of the team’s goal to perform at its best in December and January.“Personally, and the defense, we take it as a challenge. I saw the stats before. Jalen only threw one interception this season, so I took it as a challenge to try to get one. You can see the film of mine, I had to go get it, and [Wright] made a crazy play to take the ball away and recover it on the tush push. We talk about that’s the reason why we’re the best in the league at taking the ball away,” Byard commented.

“I think you can see by the way we finish each game that we haven’t finished. I think we have future plans to be somewhere beyond February, so that’s what we’re really looking for,” Gordon said.
