LARAMIE, WY – The fans gathered at War Memorial Stadium turned their attention as the clock marked the end of the first half. The Nevada team was leading Wyoming with a score of 7-0, but the presence of a special figure on the sidelines captured the attention of the crowd.
Josh Allen, accompanied by his parents, Joel and Lavonne, and former Wyoming coach Craig Bohl, returned to Laramie for the first time since his Pro Day in 2018. On this occasion, the American football player returned to be honored as the last Cowboy to wear the number 17.
On Saturday, during halftime, his jersey was retired, making him the third athlete in Wyoming history to receive this honor, joining former basketball players Fennis Dembo and Kenny Sailors.
A video with Allen’s highlights from college was shown, and then his name and number were revealed in the center of the stadium.
He also thanked his coaches, who believed in him, the fans, and everyone who supported him in Wyoming. He concluded by saying that he felt honored and blessed to represent the university and the state, saying goodbye with a “Go Pokes”.“First of all, I want to thank everyone for coming tonight. This is an incredible honor, a great blessing. There are many people I can thank for this achievement. Many teammates here. I love them.
Josh Allen
