SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for the suspension of Demarcus Robinson, who will miss the first three games of the season due to a driving under the influence (DUI) charge. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan revealed in an interview on KNBR radio that Robinson has been suspended for the first three weeks of the season.

“D-Rob, we won’t have him for the first three weeks. You can always appeal, so we’re hoping for the best, but that’s what we’re planning for.”

Given the likely absence of Robinson and other issues at the catcher position, the 49ers have taken steps to reinforce the group. They have agreed to a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire wide receiver Skyy Moore. The agreement implies that the Chiefs will send a seventh-round pick and Moore to San Francisco in exchange for a sixth-round pick from the Niners in 2027. Moore, selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2022 draft, recorded 43 receptions for 494 yards and a touchdown in two seasons with the team. He suffered a muscle injury that prevented him from playing in the last games of last season. Robinson was arrested in November in Los Angeles and pleaded “no contest” to a DUI charge in July. The 49ers, upon signing Robinson to a two-year, $9.5 million contract, anticipated the possibility of his suspension. Shanahan has highlighted Robinson and second-year receiver Ricky Pearsall as “the two most consistent receivers” during training camp. Robinson, for his part, expressed his anxiety to know the final decision on his suspension, which is in the process of appeal. In 2024, Robinson led the Rams with seven touchdowns and 31 receptions for 505 yards, his career bests. If the three-game suspension is upheld, Robinson will miss the season opener against Seattle, the Week 2 game against the New Orleans Saints, and the Week 3 home game against the Arizona Cardinals. He would be available to return in Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The absence of Robinson is another blow for a group of receivers facing significant challenges at the start of the season. The 49ers will also have to deal with the absence of Brandon Aiyuk in the first game due to a knee injury, with a possible return in Week 6. Jauan Jennings is also dealing with a calf injury and contractual issues, while rookie Jordan Watkins is recovering from a sprained ankle. Jacob Cowing, for his part, was unable to train on Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.
